New partnership announced with leading NHS Trust

Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (ASPH), the largest provider of acute hospital services in Surrey, has invited Well North Enterprises to help it deliver sustainable change by enhancing its role within the local community as an anchor organisation.

Well North Enterprises will build on the existing work of ASPH, its local partners and its emerging Integrated Care Partnership. The aim is to develop a vision for the future that meets the aspirations of colleagues, patients and their families, partner organisations and is relevant for local neighbourhoods.

The ‘diagnostic’ phase of the Well North Enterprises approach runs during summer 2019, identifying the challenges and opportunities for ASPH through conversations with Trust colleagues, local people, partner organisations and local business. This will be followed by a two-day immersion workshop in the autumn to explore the diagnostic findings and develop a shared vision and practical action plan.

This plan will include ways to generate additional benefits and opportunities from the Trust’s landmark redevelopment project at St Peter’s Hospital, which include new urgent and emergency care facilities, an improved main entrance, additional car park, more restaurants and cafes for staff and visitors and new accommodation for hospital staff.

Well North Enterprises Chairman Lord Andrew Mawson had the opportunity to chat to ASPH staff and local people about their hopes and aspirations at ASPH’s inaugural Community Open Day held at St Peter’s Hospital on 6th July 2019. More than 300 local people, local businesses, stakeholders and partners took part in the celebratory and interactive day, which helped local people feel part of the Trust.

“The Community Day was a huge success, and clearly demonstrated the strong connection local people feel to their hospitals,” said Andrew Mawson. “Such a positive reaction is a great foundation for our work with the Trust leadership team to put ASPH at the heart of the community.”

Lucinda McArthur, Chief Executive of Well North Enterprises, added: “We are thrilled to be working with the innovative leadership team at Ashford and St Peter’s, our first client in the south of England. The team clearly understands the need to look at health and wellbeing from a much wider community perspective, and to build a culture and environment that attracts and retains the best staff.

“The focus will be on understanding what matters to people rather than what’s the matter with them. Our team is looking forward to providing the expertise, contacts and tools to help the Trust develop and implement its ambitious vision to transform the way it provides health and care services.”

Tom Smerdon, Director of Strategy and Sustainability at ASPH, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working in partnership with Well North Enterprises and Lord Andrew Mawson. We have been truly inspired by their work and feel it connects directly with our ambitions for ASPH, and for our role in supporting the health and wellbeing of citizens across NW Surrey and beyond.

“ASPH has a strong track record as a successful organisation, which gives us a strong foundation to thrive in the future with support from Well North Enterprises. As a founder member of the NW Surrey Integrated Care Partnership, and our exciting plans for the transformation of our building and services, we have a once in a generation opportunity.

“Well North Enterprises bring an impressive track record of experience and credentials to support us in making the most of that opportunity for the benefit of our communities.”
