Iain Macdonald

Board Member

After a 40-year career in the oil, gas and natural resources industry, Iain is concentrating on using his finance, governance and leadership skills in the not for profit sector.

He started his career as an engineer at BP and progressed through a wide variety of roles, finally retiring 30 years later as Deputy Group Chief Financial Officer. He then spent another 10 years on the boards of several firms in the industry, as CFO and as chair of Audit Committees.

For the last few years Iain has also been on the board of the Workforce Development Trust, a charity concentrating on workforce optimisation and skills development initially in the health sector but now expanded to other sectors as well. He chairs the Finance Committee there and also chairs one of the subsidiary companies, People 1st International. This is targeted at skills development in the hospitality, leisure, retail and travel industries, all of which face significant challenges in today’s world.

Iain is delighted to be part of the Well North Enterprises team and to use his extensive board and finance experience to further the exciting opportunities for development of the organisation.
